Haiti – Technology : First open source school management software developed in Haiti

Thursday, July 16 at 5:00 pm at the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL) located at 143, avenue Christophe, the Haitian enterprise LOGIPAM will officially launch the first open source school management software developed in Haiti: SIGES (Integrated Management System and Access to Information School), a complete software that meets the needs of schools in Haiti in terms of academic and pedagogical management and administrative and financial management.

SIGES is a free, open source, available in French, Haitian Creole, and English. It is customizable to suit the schools: primary and secondary; professional and technical; private and public; in urban and rural areas, the school networks, sponsorship organizations, educational projects, etc…

If the use of new technologies in school management is an asset, the implementation of the systems on the Haitian market currently remains very expensive and limits users by binding and licensing agreements preventing many educational institutions to computerize.

Built on cooperation, sharing and dissemination of knowledge and new technologies, open source licenses, like that of SIGES, paving the way for extensive opportunities and benefit a larger number of users.
