CARICOM says new US$70M initiative could spur youth entrepreneurship
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which has long lamented the lack of opportunities for youths, has hailed a new U.S government initiative in the region.
CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque told Guyanese journalists in Panama City that the initiative is to boost entrepreneurial capacity among youths in the 15-nation regional trade and integration bloc.
On Thursday, to coincide with the visit of President Barack Obama to Jamaica, the United States committed nearly US$70M to help young entrepreneurs develop their businesses through various initiatives, including fellowships and training in business start-ups. The programme is called Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI).
