Dominica: China invertirá 16 millones de dólares en proyectos para el país
China to pump US$16m into Dominica
China is providing US$16 million to fund a number of projects, according to a official Government statement issued here on Tuesday.
It said that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and the Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, WANG Zhaofeng signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement for a number of projects to be agreed upon by the two countries in the coming weeks.
“We are very glad to see that over the past 10 years, based on the principle of mutual respect, equality and friendly benefit, the friendly cooperation between our two countries has made fruitful achievements and brought tangible benefits to our two countries and our two peoples,” said the Chinese diplomat.
Prime Minister Skerrit said that his administration would continue to honour the “One China” policy that Beijing said underscored its foreign relations with other countries and which does not recognise Taiwan that China regards as a renegade province.
“We have always been able to rely on the commitment of Chinese support to Dominica; not only on bilateral relations but on multilateral issues,» Skerrit said, asking the Chinese diplomat to “convey to your Government our gratitude because notwithstanding the fact that you are the second largest economy in the world, you too have your own challenges».
“China has poverty and there are infrastructural challenges in many provinces, but because of the friendship which exists and because China sees itself as having a role to play in the economic and social development of countries like Dominica. China continues to lend a helping hand to our country,” Skerrit added.
