Granada celebra elecciones legislativas
Los electores granadinos están convocados este jueves para emitir su voto en unas elecciones generales, en la cual se enfrentan como principales candidatos para dirigir el Gobierno el actual gobernante Keith Mitchell y el abogado Dickon Mitchell.
Las urnas abrieron a las 06H00 locales (10H00 UTC) y cerrarán a las 17H00 (21H00 UTC). Un total de 87.794 personas están registradas para votar. El lunes, 914 oficiales de la Policía Real de Granada tuvieron la oportunidad de emitir su voto antes que la población.
El supervisor general de Elecciones, Elvis Morain, explicó ayer que una vez que una persona se registra, su derecho al voto está asegurado.

El actual primer ministro, Keith Mitchell, de 75 años, del gobernante Nuevo Partido Nacional (NNP), espera ser reelegido para un sexto mandato como primer ministro. También busca una tercera victoria electoral consecutiva después de haber ganado los 15 distritos electorales en las elecciones generales de 2013 y 2018.
El abogado Dickon Mitchell, de 44 años, líder político del Congreso Nacional Democrático (NDC) espera aventajar al NNP y convertirse en el próximo primer ministro de Granada.
Cuarenta y un candidatos de cinco partidos políticos participan en las elecciones y hay un candidato independiente. Sin embargo, el NNP y el NDC son los principales partidos políticos en la carrera. Tanto el NNP como el NDC han presentado candidatos para los 15 escaños.

En 2018, el NNP obtuvo una victoria absoluta y recibió 33.792 votos, mientras que el NDC recibió 23.249.
Un equipo de observadores electorales de la Comunidad del Caribe (Caricom) se encuentra en Granada para monitorear el proceso electoral del país.

Grenadians will cast their vote today in a general election where only one thing is certain, the surname of the next Prime Minister will be Mitchell.
The polls opened at 6 am and will close at 5 pm. A total of 87,794 persons are registered to vote. On Monday, 914 officers of the Royal Grenada Police Force were given the opportunity to cast their ballot ahead of the population.

Incumbent Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, 75, of the ruling New National Party (NNP) is hoping to be re-elected for a sixth term as prime minister. He is also seeking a third election victory in a row having won all 15 constituencies in the 2013 and 2018 general elections.
Attorney at law, Dickon Mitchell, 44, the political leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is hoping to oust the NNP and become Grenada’s next prime minister.
Forty-one candidates are contesting the election from five political parties and there is one independent candidate, however, the NNP and the NDC are the main political parties in the race.
Both the NNP and NDC have offered up candidates for all 15 seats.
In 2018, the NNP had a clean sweep and received 33,792 votes while the NDC received 23, 249.
The Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS says 15 persons from 11 countries will observe the general elections in Grenada. A team of election observers from CARICOM are also in Grenada to monitor the country’s electoral process.
