Barbados: continúan los despidos de trabajadores públicos
More lay-offs
The public sector job cuts have continued across Barbados with around 70 workers from the Ministry of Transport and Works being sent home Tuesday morning.
CBC understands they received letters from the personnel department around ten in the morning.
Reports are that affected workers come from depots around the island with some having between seven and ten years of service.
Some workers say they have been told dozens more from the MTW will receive their walking papers soon.
It’s also understood that around 30 temporary workers at the National Insurance Scheme have also been retrenched.
These layoffs follow those at the National Housing Corporation, the Fisheries Department, the postal service and the Probation Department.
This as government moves to trim its fiscal deficit which is hovering at well over half a billion dollars on its current account.
