Gobierno de Barbados adelanta acuerdos de cooperación con Sudáfrica
South Africa and Barbados to work on closer ties
The negotiation of a double taxation agreement (DTA) and an air services agreement were among the areas discussed when South Africa’s High Commissioner, Maureen Modiselle, paid a courtesy call on Barbados’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.
During the call at the ministry recently, the two officials discussed a range of issues aimed at strengthening the existing relations between the two countries.
McClean said the air services agreement would open up opportunities for Barbadians and South Africans to conduct business by facilitating easier travel and it would also provide a vital air link to the eastern part of the continent.
The foreign minister said South Africa had “taken its place” in the global arena and praised its representation of other countries in other spheres of endeavour.
The South African ambassador also spoke about former president Nelson Mandela’s achievements for his countrymen after apartheid and the efforts of the present president to build on the foundation that was already laid.
South Africa and Barbados established diplomatic ties on January 4, 1994
