The St. Lucia government Tuesday announced it had opened a Honorary Consul office in Saudi Arabia as it seeks to expand the business and tourism profile of the island in the Middle East.

An official statement noted that the office established at “no cost to the government of St. Lucia,” will commence operations on November 1 and that Halla Walid Al Juffali has been appointed as Honorary Consul based in Jeddah.

It said that she recently visited St. Lucia to meet with government and other stakeholders “in preparation for her responsibilities as the representative of the government of St. Lucia in Saudi Arabia.

‎The statement said that among her first duties as Consul will be to host a training workshop with travel agents in Saudi Arabia, adding that “the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the largest economies in the Middle East and is the largest producer and exporter of oil in the world. It is the only Arab country to be part of the G-20 major economies”.
