El primer ministro de San Vicente y las Granadinas, Ralph Gonsalves emitió este jueves una alerta de desastre por incremento de actividad del volcán Sufriere e informó que se están tomando las medidas necesarias frente a la situación de alarma.

Una nueva serie de temblores tuvo lugar esta mañana, lo que adquiere un significado diferente, alertó el primer ministro a la nación. Asimismo, las autoridades han alertado a los residentes cercanos, a estar preparados por si fuera necesario evacuar a corto plazo.

El especialista insisitó que se registraron terremotos de larga duración, lo cual significa que el magma fresco está tratando de llegar a la superficie, y esto puede significar que el volcán puede pasar a fase explosiva.

Gonsalves: Barbados to receive evacuees in case of La Soufriere eruption
St Vincent’s Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves today declared a disaster alert for the La Soufriere Volcano and reported that Barbados and St Lucia are willing to receive evacuees.
However, he said they will have to be vaccinated against novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
He said his government has also been in contact with friendly nations, including the United States, Cuba, and Venezuela to discuss possible assistance.
Gonsalves also urged residents not to panic.
He said the alert was issued because there is a substantial possibility of an eruption of the volcano.
The prime minister, who was speaking during a live, emergency press conference, earlier today said this is a Stage 3 disaster alert, which takes place within the framework of an Orange alert. This is the stage which immediately precedes an order to evacuate.
He said it is not an evacuation order. The prime minister said officials are putting matters in place for preparation of a possible eruption. Gonsalves told citizens “we will get this right together” and “build back stronger”.
Royal Caribbean has indicated that it could get to St Vincent a cruise ship that can house 1 500 people, who will also have to be vaccinated before they are allowed to occupy the vessel.
Arrangements have also been made for the evacuation of animals.
A bulletin on the Facebook Page of St Vincent’s National Emergency Management Organisation earlier today said: “The steaming/smoking at the La Soufriere Volcano had increased over the last few hours.
Lead scientist Professor Richard Robertson said the La Soufriere volcano could erupt “anytime from now”, following a significant increase in activity.
T&T ready to assist if St Vincent’s La Soufriere erupts
The Ministry of National Security in Trinidad and Tobago has assured that this country stands ready to assist its Vincentian neighbours in the event that the La Soufriere volcano erupts on the island.
Earlier today, St Vincent’s Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves advised those who live near to the volcano to evacuate immediately as scientists predict that it could erupt within hours or days.
In a media release this afternoon, line Minister Stuart Young said that based on instructions he received from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who spoke to Prime Minister Gonzalves, National Security has been preparing itself to assist.
In a media conference today PM Gonzalves said he requested that T&T accept Vincentians into the country even if they only have an identification card as a result of the emergency.
Young said he’s instructed Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Dexter Francis to have his men on standby to provide any assistance that may become necessary.
The National Security Ministry and by extension the government of Trinidad and Tobago will be monitoring the issue and communicating with St Vincent’s government to coordinate efforts.

El ministro del Poder Popular la Relaciones Exteriores, Jorge Arreaza, informó que en las próximas horas Venezuela enviará insumos humanitarios y expertos en riesgos para cooperar en labores de evacuación y reubicación preventiva de ciudadanos en San Vicente y Las Granadinas.
A través de su cuenta en la red social Twitter, @jaarreaza, el Canciller detalló que los países miembros de la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América – Tratado de Comercio de los Pueblos (ALBA-TCP) se mantiene en alerta para coordinar los apoyos necesarios para el pueblo hermano.
Esto luego de que el primer ministro de San Vicente y las Granadinas, Ralph Gonsalves, emitiera una alerta de desastre ante el incremento de actividad del volcán Sufriere que ha dejado una serie de temblores al inicio del día.
La autoridad informó que se están tomando las medidas necesarias y han alertado a los residentes cercanos a estar preparados para evacuar a corto plazo, de ser necesario.
