CARICOM felicitó a Joe Biden y afirmó que «es una victoria histórica»
Caricom saluda victoria de Biden y Harris en EE.UU.
Georgetown, 9 nov (Prensa Latina) La Comunidad del Caribe (Caricom) calificó hoy de histórica las elecciones de Estados Unidos por elevar a una mujer de ascendencia caribeña e india a la vicepresidencia de ese país: Kamala Harris.
En un mensaje de felicitación al demócrata Joe Biden por su triunfo en los comicios del pasado 3 de noviembre, el organismo regional consideró que la naturaleza histórica de esta victoria se ejemplifica con la elección de Harris.
Se trata de ‘una persona de ascendencia caribeña y del sur de Asia’ que, además, se convertirá en la primera mujer en alcanzar ese alto cargo, agregaron los gobernantes de Caricom.
El texto apuntó que Biden asumirá el puesto durante uno de los períodos más desafiantes de la historia reciente y su vasta experiencia será de gran valor para la comunidad global en este momento.
Para la agrupación caribeña, el presidente electo ha sido amigo de Caricom, comunidad que espera trabajar con la nueva administración estadounidense ‘en la búsqueda de nuestro objetivo común de promover el bienestar de nuestro pueblo’.
Asimismo, subrayó que el Caribe está indisolublemente vinculado con Estados Unidos por la geografía, los valores compartidos, los lazos familiares y las relaciones económicas y de seguridad.

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) congratulate the President-elect of the United States, Mr Joseph Biden, on his victory in the elections of 2 November.
The historic nature of this victory is exemplified by the election of Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris, a person of Caribbean and South Asian descent, as the first woman to achieve that position.
Mr Biden will assume office during one of the most challenging periods of recent history and his vast experience will be of great value to the global community at this time.
The President-elect has been a friend to CARICOM and the Community looks forward to working with the new administration of the United States, in pursuing our common goal of advancing the wellbeing of our people. It is a country with which the Community is inextricably linked through geography, shared values, familial ties, and economic and security relations.
The Community wishes President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris every success in their tenure.
