Foreign Minister Reports Progress In Jamaica, T&T Relations

Jamaica’s foreign minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, has declared that there has been progress on immigration and trade between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago following the state visit of the twin-island republic leader.

Johnson Smith is to present a formal statement to the Senate this week outlining the status of discussions that have taken place to date between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on immigration and trade issues.

She made the disclosure at Friday’s sitting of the Senate while responding to questions posed by Opposition members regarding relations between the two countries.

She says the statement will provide a more complete update on the talks between Jamaica and Trinidad. However, she underscored that progress has been made.

Johnson Smith informed that although the new facilities for persons who have been denied entry to Trinidad was not completed by its July deadline at the Piarco International Airport, another infrastructure was constructed and renovated to “facilitate persons who are not landed”.
