Dominica: Gobierno espera hoy la llegada de Nicolás Maduro tras suspender la cita el sábado
Venezuela President to visit Dominica
The President of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, is to make his first official visit to Dominica on Wednesday.
Maduro is expected to symbolically hand over 300 houses, called ‘petrocasas,’ to those affected by Tropical Storm Erika.
One such structure has already been erected at the Douglas Charles Airport in anticipation of the handing-over ceremony.
Maduro was expected in Dominica on Saturday but the visit was unexpectedly cancelled. No reasons were given for the cancellation.
Recently Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that Venezuela had offered the houses after the passage of Erika and Dominica readily accepted.
He said the first 50 houses are expected to be in the country in the next couple of weeks and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing will advise cabinet how and where they will be erected.
