Saint Lucia, Venezuela sign agreement for mutual recognition of titles of higher education

The Saint Lu­cian ministers for health and education, Hon. Alvina Reynolds and Hon. Dr. Robert Lewis last week visited the Bo­livarian Republic of Venezuela, and held discussions with their counterparts, Minister for University Education, Sci­ence and Technology Sr. Man­uel Fernandez, and Minister for Health Dr. Henry Ventura.

During the visit, the two education ministers signed an agreement of Recognition of Titles of Higher Education between the governments of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezu­ela and Saint Lucia.

The ministerial delega­tion also met with the Rector of the National Ex­perimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), Nestor Viloria, who informed them of study opportunities for young Saint Lucians in different areas of the Arts in­cluding music, theater, dance, and visual arts.

The ministers then toured the Dr. Gil­berto Rodríguez Ochoa Latin American Children’s Cardiolo­gy Hospital, which was inaugu­rated in 2006 to meet the great demand of patients from birth to18 years suffering with heart defects.

Meanwhile, last Monday, an intensive Spanish Lan­guage course was launched in Saint Lucia for the 23 students selected to pursue a seven-year course in Integral Community Medicine at the Dr. Salvador Allende Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), situated in Miranda State in the Bolivarian Republic. The language course will run for eight weeks and is being conducted at the Castries Com­prehensive Secondary School and at the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, simultaneously.
