Santa Lucía impulsa proyecto tecnológico con financiamiento de Taiwán
Taiwan finances ICT project in St Lucia
Taiwan is continuing to assist St Lucia with the financing of a major project aimed at expanding access to technology across the country.
Taiwanese Ambassador James Chang, Friday presented Prime Minister Kenny Anthony with a cheque of EC$1.2 million (One EC dollar =US$0.37 cents) which will go towards the completion of two new community access centers.
The IT access centres will enhance the southern communities of Micoud and Vieux Fort by providing centrally located facilities for the access to Information and Communications Technology (ICT.)
“While computers are becoming the norm in many homes, there are still many people who require centres such as these at which they can access the Internet and other IT resources,» Anthony said on receiving the cheque.
He said there was also the need for facilities where IT-based training can occur.
«Given your country’s world-recognized legacy in the field of ICT and Electronics development, we are pleased [to have you] assist us in expanding access to technology here in Saint Lucia,” Anthony added.
The two facilities are being completed at a total cost of over EC$3.1 million.
The Prime Minister said that the investments go hand in hand with developments in the education sector.
He also thanked the Taiwanese government for its commitment to St Lucia’s continued progress, as it continues to assist with the National ICT Centre, and also provided a grant of nearly $7 million to support the Multi-Channel Data Centre (MCDC) Project of the government.
The MCDC project aims to improve public services and public administration through suitable technology.
