In response to the Jamaica Observer question «Is the Government’s 25% increase in transportation fares justified?» 68 per cent of respondents said no.
On Monday, August 19, Minister of Transport, Work and Housing, Dr Omar Davies announced a 25 per cent increase in fares for the public transport sector.
Fares for commuters using the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) have increased from $80 to $100.
Students, the elderly and disabled will continue to pay $20.
The 25 per cent increase also applies to route taxis and rural stage carriers
