Jamaica will host the 8th Annual Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) in December, the executive director of the Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Ronald Jackson, has said.

More than 400 delegates are expected to attend the December 2-6 conference which will be held under the theme “CDM for Resilient Development: A Good Investment”.

The annual conference is the Caribbean’s premier event on disaster risk management. It is also regarded as the regional forum of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) global platform.

Organised by CDEMA, in collaboration with its partners, the organisers said the conference provides a unique opportunity for facilitating networking among disaster risk management practitioners, donors, non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as representatives from the public and private sectors, scientists and researchers.

The conference is also structured to promote good practice, share ongoing research and chart the way forward for the advancement of CDM in the Caribbean, the organisers added.
